The original catalytic converter heatshield was made from an asbestos material which is an environmental and health "no-no" nowadays. Every substitute we've encountered either fits poorly (negating it's effects at heat protection) or doesn't work at all because of the materials. Most DeLoreans today run without a good one. or without one completely, with no ill effects.
