Improved Part is identical or similar to the original part, but improved in design, material or functionality.
This part does double-duty - once, as the access cover to the roof wiring connections under the stainless T-panel and again as the engine cover latch mechanism access cover in the engine compartment.
If you're using it on the roof, skip the hardware and use a good amount of RTV sealant to help keep out moisture. If you're using it on the engine cover latch, you can skip the gasket, too. Heat from the engine degrades them very quickly, rendering them useless.
