EVAPORATOR CORE (ORIGINAL) - SUPERSEDED BY 101272A
Part Number
101272
Replaced by:
New reproduction part!
In a DeLorean, evaporator failures are usually the result of leakage. Leaks can happen for a number of different reasons. In some cases, either a seam or weld has failed, creating a leak point, or more likely in DeLoreans, corrosion has caused a leak by working it's way from the outside of the evaporator through to the inside. Lots of times this happens because leaves or other organic material (can you say rodents and their nests?) enter the evaporator case through an exterior air intake vent and come in contact with the evaporator's surface. The moist atmosphere causes decomposition of the organic materials, and can create corrosive substances which can eventually eat through the surface of the evaporator. These same substances can also sometimes lead to an odor problem inside the passenger compartment. The evaporator fins are also susceptible to clogging from leaves, dirt and other stuff that shouldn't be there.Whichever the type of evaporator failure, it must be replaced. And as you can see the cost of the evaporator isn't that much, its location behind the dash requires several hours of labor to remove the interior parts the block access for replacement. We typically recommend replacing the heater core while you are in there, you don't want to go back in there for another 30+ years!
Due to the awkward size of this part, with the the long pipes coming off at an angle, this items ships in an oversized box at dimensional weight vs actual weight. Expect higher than normal shipping costs.
