OIL/FUEL GAUGE
Here's the backstory on the assorted DeLorean instrument cluster gauges....
DeLorean instrument clusters were supplied to the factory by AC-Delco in the USA. They were manufactured in the States, (supposedly) tested, then boxed up and shipped to the factory in Dunmurry, Northern Ireland. It's unclear whether or not they were tested prior to installation into binnacles and then into cars headed down the assembly line.
When DeLorean production ended in 1982, remaining intact clusters and a fair number of clusters with some sort of defect (broken trip reset shafts, scratched lenses, inoperative individual gauges, or some other physical damage to the printed circuits or housing) were part of the DeLorean parts inventory purchased by Consolidated International and then Kapac and then the company now known at Classic DMC. Before Classic DMC obtained the parts, Kapac would pull individual gauges out of clusters for their customers. This left a lot of clusters with missing components, and sometimes the person or person(s) tasked with removing the individual components were, shall we say, less than delicate with them. While they were available, we sold complete clusters, both standard and metric, until the supply was exhausted.
Fast forward to 2022 and Classic DMC is left with a large quantity of incomplete clusters and damaged components to be sorted out. We had no easy way to test which components of the partial clusters were "good" or "bad" - other than building one up completely and installing it in a car to test, which was neither cost- nor time-efficient.
Recently, at a not-insignificant expense, we had a "Tester" created that would allow us to electrically test individual components as well as complete clusters, including all gauges and lights. We also had an old school calibration tester for the car’s mechanical speedometer, as well.
At this time we are in a position where, as time and workload permits, we are disassembling the remaining incomplete instrument clusters, testing the pieces, and those that test "good" are photographed and a unique serial number affixed to each of them. They are listed here by photo and serial number to allow those who wish to purchase one to view all of the currently available stock and choose whichever one they like. They are all priced the same, and more are added as time permits, so check back often and see what has changed. Units that are sold will "disappear" from the drop down list of available serial numbers first and then the photo of that item will go away shortly thereafter. In other words, if you see a photo and the matching serial number is missing from the drop down serial number list, it's sold and we haven't pulled down the photo yet.
As an electrical part, all sales are final unless DOA - we guarantee they work when they leave here and we will electrically test any supposed DOA units returned to us. Check your instrument cluster’s printed circuit closely before installation and take care plugging them into the main harness as these can be damaged through improper installation. If you're using one of the reproduction instrument cluster printed circuits made by a certain supplier in Europe and sold by them and their agents in the UK, be doubly careful.
