LUGGAGE RACK
Lots of places use our DeLorean part numbers as identifiers for their "cross-reference" or "copycat" parts, creating confusion in the marketplace. This 
New Original Stock, or NOS, part traces its origins back to 1982, when the DeLorean factory closed. In some cases, the part has traveled from the original supplier in the US to Dunmurry before making it's way to Ohio and finally Texas!

After announcing the discovery of nine complete DeLorean NOS luggage racks in our Texas warehouse, we received immediate interest from many DeLorean community members wanting to purchase them. Because demand greatly exceeded our supply, we devised a random drawing aimed toward giving every committed buyer a fair chance to purchase this highly sought-after and rare dealer option.
In an effort to limit the number of entries to ONE per person, the best way we can think to do this is to have people “put their money where their mouth is”. That being said, to enter the drawing, each person will be required to place an order (plus shipping) by following these two simple steps:
1. Beginning at 5 PM Central Time June 20th, 2023, chances to order the Luggage Rack will be available on this product page.
2. Add the luggage rack to your cart, fill out all required personal, shipping, and payment information, then complete the checkout process as if you were purchasing a product from the DMC parts website.
Orders will close at 12 PM (noon) Central Time on Monday, June 26th, 2023. All paid luggage rack orders will be placed into the drawing, which will be held during a "Facebook Live" Tuesday, June 27th at 2:00 PM Central Time. All paid orders during this time will be entered into the drawing, so it doesn't matter when during that time period you place your order.
If your order is pulled to receive one of the nine NOS racks, your order will be shipped that same day. If your order is not pulled, your order will be canceled and completely refunded to you immediately.
Now, this is where it gets interesting. Recently we also discovered, in addition to these 9, another 15-20 that are NOT in a box and have some cosmetic issues and are missing things like the straps, black plastic storage bag, and some hardware. The sale proceeds of the 9 "new in-the-box" racks will go towards reproducing the missing parts - at least the knobs and hinge hardware - so these become usable parts. These racks will then be sold at a lower price than these 9 NOS luggage racks. If demand exceeds supply for this when they become available later this summer, we’ll do a similar method of sale as we are doing for the NOS ones.
Orders placed are binding upon the purchaser but limited to available stock on hand. Orders DMC is unable to fulfill per the procedure described above will be canceled and refunded with our regrets. Orders will be shipped in double-boxes to protect against shipping damage and insured at full price against loss or damage. Thank you!

UPDATE: JUNE 14, 2023: We’ve discovered, buried in the back of the warehouse, a total of NINE brand new original DMC luggage racks, in their original boxes. Most were partially opened so to be safe, we’ve opened and checked them for completeness and condition.

Made from tubular steel and painted in black enamel, the luggage rack is probably one of the most under-rated of all DeLorean accessories. Stores flat in the trunk when not in use, with virtually invisible mounting points. When in use and fully loaded, rear visibility is not impaired at all.While marketed as a luggage rack, interviews with DMC employees from the era indicate that it's purpose was more a "flat rear tire carrier". The spare wheel well in the luggage compartment can hold a flat front wheel/tire but not a rear. If your luggage compartment is otherwise loaded and you have a passenger, the problem then becomes what you do with a flat rear tire. The luggage rack neatly answers this question by being a place to stow the flat rear tire. Factory records indicate that perhaps less than a thousand of these were made.
