Improved Part is identical or similar to the original part, but improved in design, material or functionality.
The DeLorean's original factory shift boot had a flimsy plastic frame to which the leather boot was glued. And some glue it was, too. It would hold even as the leather shrank, so much so that it would bend and eventually break the plastic frame, causing the boot to flop around. The new ones are made with a metal frame, correct stitching, and new leather firmly glued in place.
